Skiing in Italy

The spectacular Italian Alps and Dolomites are home to some of the most impressive and exclusive ski resorts in Europe. With world-class skiing, amazing off-piste adventures and the best Italian cuisine, Italy and its mountains make the perfect destination for a luxury ski holiday.

The stunning Italian ski resorts are diverse with traditional, alpine villages and vast ski areas. Many of the top ski resorts in Italy are in the Val d’Aosta, a picture perfect area bordering France and Switzerland. Other famous resorts include Selva in Val Gardena and Cortina D’Ampezzo in the Dolomites bordering Austria.

Skiing in the Italian Alps

Cervinia is one of its most popular areas and is Italy’s highest resort. The high altitude makes Cervinia a snow-sure resort with great snow conditions and the views over the towering Matterhorn make for a truly stunning experience.

Known for its extensive ski area, the impressive lift system also connects skiers to the famous resort of Zermatt just over the border in Switzerland.

Skiing in the Dolomites

The Alps spread across the north of Italy and encompass the striking mountain range of the Dolomites. Here one of the worlds largest ski areas, the Dolomiti Superski covers 12 ski resorts in the central Dolomites. Skiing here offers some of the most breathtaking mountain panoramas in the world.

One of the best-known ski routes in the world is the celebrated Sellaronda tour which takes in four Dolomites passes and covers a distance of 40km, 27km of which are pure skiing.

Selva is a gateway to this famous circuit and the picturesque old town of Ortisei is ideal for a chic, yet traditional Italian mountain stay.

A trip to this area wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Queen of the Dolomites, Cortina d’Ampezzo. Noted as the most fashionable and exclusive ski resort in Italy, this Olympic resort is renowned for excellent skiing as well as chic boutiques and Michelin restaurants.

In 1956, Cortina hosted the very first edition of the Winter Olympics in Italy and 70 years later, in 2026, it will once again be host to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics.
