Lake Garda is the largest of the Italian Lakes and stretches from the vineyards and olive groves in the south to the foothills of the Dolomites in the north. Possibly the most family-friendly of the Italian lakes , with a wonderful climate, dramatic mountains, breathtaking views, mouthwatering cuisine and excellent wine, Lake Garda has just about everything you could possibly wish for.

General Information about Lake Garda

The beautiful setting of Lake Garda has been attracting visitors for hundreds of years. No matter where you stay, you will never be too far from a jaw dropping scene or three. Backed by breath-taking scenery, snow-capped mountains and stunning lake views, it’s easy to understand why this gorgeous lake is so popular.

And if you’re thinking about what do do, Lake Garda has you covered – spend your days eating ice cream and enjoying jaw-dropping views in lakeside cafes; try your hand at some watersports (Lake Garda is one of the top destinations for wind and kite surfers); explore picturesque villages and iconic cities such as Verona, Venice and Milan. The national parks are stunning and end your days at lakeside restaurants serving the very best pizza, pasta and sea (and lake!) food! Not to mention the region’s famous wines!

Incredible Lake Garda is one of the most exciting places to visit in Italy. With a wonderful climate and amazing variations in scenery, it offers something to suit everyone. It is overlooked by the majestic Dolomite mountains, has sparkling clear waters perfect for you to swim and relax in surrounded by lush citrus groves, olive trees, vineyards, ancient Italian villages and sophisticated resorts.

Dotted around the Lake there are a number of charming towns for you to visit, all unique and filled with cobbled streets, pretty churches, ancient frescos, stunning gardens, promenades, local wines, and of course lots of gelato! Throughout the week local markets are held around the Lake, moving from town to town every day. These offer a wide selection of local produce, including fashion, gifts, homeware and delicious Italian food.

The winding roads up the west coast to the north of Lake Garda set the scene in the James Bond movie ‘Quantum of Solace’ (take a look at the opening scenes!). You can follow in the footsteps (or wheels) of James Bond and drive along one of the most stunning and scenic roads in Europe that is literally carved into the mountain side next to the Lake.

Families can experience the marvels of Gardaland, Italy’s biggest theme park, or the wonders of CanevaWorld with it’s Medieval Knights or Aqua Paradise. Couples can wander the pretty villages, travelling between each one by the local ferry, or what about wine or olive oil tasting? Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the world-famous windsurf areas, mountain bike or paraglide down Monte Baldo … or if you prefer just take a dip in the warm, clear waters of the lake and dry off on the beach in the beautiful Italian sunshine. If you are looking for something a little special … experience the magical atmosphere as the night sky is filled with fireworks every week during the summer.
